+5 VDC, 0.5 AMP VOLTAGE REGULATORS, TO-220New, old stock (NOS). MSC78M05 equivalent. +5 VDC voltage regulators are what you need if you work with TTL, and some microcontroller, memory, interface (e.g. ADC / DAC) circuits. We like these a lot because for regulated power supplies that use four 1.5 VDC AAA, AA, C or D batteries wired in series, the +5 VDC voltage regulator is great to squeeze out the highest regulated voltage throughout the useable life of the batteries, so is a very popular ICs in our designs of this type. Almost all semiconductor circuits require a voltage regulator IC for best results whether the power supply voltage comes from a battery or an AC transformer and a set of rectifiers. Common 1.5V alkaline batteries gradually reduce their output voltage as the battery depletes (as opposed to NiCd batteries, which steadily maintain output voltage until depleted, at which time output voltage immediately plunges). Widespread uses in many circuit designs.
