AISI O-1 oil hardening cold work tool steel. O-1 is a general purpose, relatively nondeforming grade which hardens from low temperatures (smaller tools and dies can be treated with a torch). When greater stability in heat treatment and/or wear resistance is required, consider A-2. If machinability is of prime importance, consider O-6. Typical applications include gages, punches, knives, shear blades, machine parts, drawing dies, straight edges, forming dies, and trim dies.
