Copper Litz Wire. Fifty-four (54) strands of number 38 wire with a single layer cotton overwrap. This wire is used to make low loss high performance coils (inductors) for radio receivers. An important use is the "Crystal Set". Since there is no amplification used in the true crystal set one needs all the signal they can get; hence, low loss coils are a priority. Used in RF tuning coils, traps, goniometers, tuners, preselectors, etc. build authentic reproductions of crystal sets with this wire. Number 38 wire is useful for operating frequencies greater than about 100 KHz. Of course, it can be used at lower frequencies; however, the full benefit will not be realized as the skin depth is greater than the wire radius. DC Resistance is about 0.012 ohms per foot for his wire. Wire is sold by the foot. Minimum order is 50 feet. For small quantities see here.
