Lot 2 scintillation detector crystal 4.8G/cc BAF2 gamma

Lot of 2 Like New Scintillation Detector Crystals
Careful measurements indicate a density of 4.8 g/cc, and this is consistent only with BaF2 (Barium Fluoride). These were tested in my photomultiplier jig and do respond to alpha, beta and gamma radiation. The configuration of the crystal is optimized for a medium Gamma ray, probably the 511 keV that is produced in a PET scanner. BaF2 is a unique crystal, used for optical windows, scintillators and as a source for Barium XRF X-rays. These crystals are not BGO. BaF2 is currently the fastest scintillator known, and is used primarily as a high energy gamma detector, although it does respond to Alphas and Betas. These crystals were probably used in a PET scanner to detect 511 keV photons. Odd thing is that they don't glow under UV light, either short or long! Nothing says they must, but most scintillators do. This is some special and some very exotic and expensive material.
BaF2 as a neutron detector Michael F. L.Annunziata in his book Handbook of Radioactivity Analysis states that: "Attention has been drawn to the crystal scintillator barium fluoride, BaF2, for the detection of high energy neutrons.
Kryger et al. (1994) demonstrate the efficiency of BaF2, for the detection of high energy neutrons (10-150 MeV), while at the same time it is possible to discriminate from simultaneous gamma-ray interactions....using pulse shape discrimination techniques..........efficiencies as high as 40% for neutrons of the highest energy are possible." The text above is the result of multiple tests and researches on these crystals by George Dowell, GEOelectronics, an expert in the matter.
